My Must Have Kitchen Items

Managing your kitchen is always easier to do when you have the right tools at your fingertips. I’m not saying you need to buy every specialty item you can find at Home Goods, but having good basics can make all the difference. These are my must have kitchen items that have made my life much easier!

Teal Trunk Silicone Sponge & Scrubber

Favorite. Scrubber. Ever. I discovered Teal Trunk’s silicone scrubbers last summer and haven’t used a conventional sponge since. Did you know that kitchen sponges are the number one source of germs in the whole house? Using conventional sponges only perpetually transfers bacteria from one surface to another. Not only can you totally sanitize these silicone scrubbers, but there are so many uses! Read more about them here and be sure to follow Teal Trunk on Instagram for tons of ideas and tips!

Folding Bamboo Dish Rack

I used to keep one of those clunky dish drying racks by the sink with the big plastic bottom that drained into the sink but it look up so much space! This folding bamboo dish rack is absolutely perfect if you need a space saving option. I keep mine on top of this drying mat to catch any moisture that may fall down.

Universal Knife Block

I asked for this knife block for my birthday and was not disappointed! I’ve never owned one of those full knife sets that comes with a block. I’ve always had mismatched knifes of all sizes and no where safe to keep them. This has been a perfect place to keep all of my chef knives, steak knives, and even scissors. And get this… the insert can even come out to be cleaned!!

Counter Culture All Purpose Probiotic Cleaner

If you missed my post about probiotic cleaners, make sure you check it out! You may be surprised how much science backs this kind of cleaner and how beneficial (dare I say completely necessary) it is to your home. I use this magical cleaner on almost every surface of my home! Use my code to get a FREE 5 piece set of cleaning supplies from The Grove Collaborative with your first purchase.

Rachael Ray Garbage Bowl

I know, I know. Couldn’t you just use any bowl as a “garbage” bowl? Sure, if you’re a party pooper. But why not have a beautiful melamine bowl ready to go for anything you need to throw away while cooking? Then you’re not accidentally throwing your egg shells into the mixing bowl you need for the next part of your recipe. And it’s pretty!

Meat/Potato Masher

If you ever make tacos or any other recipe calling for browned ground meat, you need this tool in your life. It helps you efficiently break up whatever ground meat you’re cooking with so that it browns evenly and quickly. You can purchase this one by Farberware or this one by Pampered Chef!

Santoku Knife

You know how I said I’ve never owned a full knife set? This knife right here is what I use 90% of the time. My 5″ Santoku knife can do almost anything for me! Those little indents on the sides of the blade prevent your food from sticking to the knife as you slice. You can find this one on Amazon or head to your local Marshalls/Home Goods and pick up a Santoku knife in their kitchen section!

Knife Sharpener

Did you know that dull kitchen knives are actually more dangerous than sharp ones? It’s important to keep your kitchen knives properly sharpened not only because they are safer but they will make meal prep much, much easier. This tabletop knife sharpener is super easy to use and works like a charm!

George Foreman Grill

I just recently purchased a George Foreman grill and I’m so glad I did! It’s such an easy way to grill veggies for a side dish or cook up some chicken breast in just a few minutes. Since it heats from both sides, it definitely cuts down on your cooking time while still giving those great grill marks. This model has removable plates which makes clean up a breeze!

  1. This is an awesome post! Thank you so much for sharing. I must be living under a rock because I’ve never heard of silicone scrubbers before. I need to make that purchase this weekend. The bamboo drying rack is wonderful. We have a dishwasher, but I prefer to wash my dishes by hand. This looks like a better option than the plastic bulky dish rack.
I have two must haves for my kitchen: mortar and pestle and a small vintage glass juicer. I use these all the time.
