Kinda Healthy Moms is a safe space for moms to find inspiration, motivation, and encouragement for wherever they are in their health journey. As moms, we hear enough judgment for the decisions we make. Do you breastfeed or formula feed? Have you lost your baby weight fast enough? When will your body “bounce back” to its former glory? Enough is enough, it’s time to show ourselves grace. I want to help you embrace your inner Kinda Healthy Mom and find all of the support and encouragement that you need.

My Kinda Healthy Journey

I’m a mom of three kiddos, a 3.5 year old boy and 20 month old fraternal twin girls. And OH BOY (or should I say girls?) that twin pregnancy did a number on my body. Even previous to my pregnancies, I can look back and say that I never had a healthy relationship with food. I call myself a “career snacker”, and it’s 100% accurate. I used to be that chick at a party who would park herself in front of the crackers and cheese and go to town all night, order way too much food at restaurants, and make poor choices at the grocery store.

I’ve Tried It All

I’ve tried way too many different weight loss programs, weight loss pills, and special drinks. I wasted a ton of money and got nowhere. None of them were sustainable for me. I could lose the first ten pounds quick and easy but it always ended with me giving up for one reason or another. Whether it was feeling too hungry, not seeing results, terrible tasting food, or just really wanting that Chinese take-out. There was always a reason to stop dieting that trumped the desire to lose weight.

My Ah-Ha Moment

Once I knew I was done having kids, I felt like I finally had the motivation to get in shape and take my health seriously. Thankfully, my dear friend started her weight loss journey on the same day I did! Having her to hold me accountable and encourage me was a total game changer. I decided to use the app called iTrackBites which lets you choose from programs like those found in Weight Watchers. I started using this app in August of 2018 and hit 30lbs lost by mid-November, in just three and a half months! That took me from a size 24 in jeans down to a size 18! I felt more energized and felt way healthier.

How My Mindset Shifted

Tracking my food and learning correct portion sizes made such an impact on me. This was the foundation that I needed to succeed. My entire mindset shifted.

3 Things I Learned:

  1. Food is NOT a reward. I did not earn the right to sit on the couch during my kids’ nap time and stuff my face until they woke up. Friends never let friends eat food as a reward. Deal?
  2. I should only eat when I’m HUNGRY and not out of habit. This should not have been a revolutionary concept but it was!
  3. Food is fuel! Literally the only REAL purpose of eating food is for nourishment, to keep our bodies moving. We are just lucky enough to be able to make healthy food that tastes good! I should choose the most nourishing food possible to fill up my body with the good stuff.

Even through long periods of not tracking my food, I’ve been able to maintain my weight because of the new, healthy habits that I’ve put into place. Shifting my mindset and embracing my inner Kinda Healthy Mom made these changes completely sustainable.

Make a Lasting Change for Your Family

As I started to make these changes in my own life, it naturally impacted the way my family ate. My husband lost 30lbs right along with me just by eating my healthy dinners! It not only impacted my husband, but also my kiddos. When I started realizing how important quality food is, I just straight up stopped buying certain snacks we were used to buying. I started investing in better options for my kids. Don’t get me wrong, my kids are not rock star eaters. But they are witnessing my husband and I making good food choices and they are being exposed to a wider variety of foods.

Can You Succeed as a Kinda Healthy Mom?

Yes! You absolutely can succeed! My mission is to give you the tools, advice, and encouragement you need to make lasting lifestyle changes and become the best Kinda Healthy You that you can be. You may have some questions though…

  • Does being a Kinda Healthy Mom mean giving up foods that I love?

Not necessarily! Sure, there are some things that I just DON’T eat any more. If you love chicken wings that have been double battered, fried in bacon fat, and then dipped in cheese, you may want to consider if that is worth eating. (Do those exist by the way? Asking for a friend.) But the point of being a Kinda Healthy Mom is that we CAN enjoy the foods we love with wise moderation, on occasion, and without shame.

  • Is the only focus on losing weight?

Absolutely not! Your focus can be and certainly may be losing weight. However, for some people it’s not about that number on the scale. It’s about those non-scale victories like your jeans fitting a little bit better, finally have the energy to run after your kids, or lowering your cholesterol. There are countless reasons why you may want to embrace your inner Kinda Healthy Mom.

  • Do I have to invest money in anything to be a Kinda Healthy Mom?

Definitely not. I will share all of my resources with you and you can get started on your Kinda Healthy Mom journey right away for FREE. The beauty about this kind of health journey is that you can make it work for you. You’re already super busy. You’re probably reading this while you’re running after your kids and wiping someone’s nose for the 100th time and it’s not even 9:00am. Finding a wellness lifestyle that is EASY for you is the key to sustainability. I’m not saying you won’t have to make difficult choices. Changing our habits is hard. But you will find your own way about it that makes it manageable.

The last thing you need to know about being a KHM…

It’s quite possibly the best decision you can make for yourself. Your body will thank you, your mind will thank you, your kids and family will thank you. And YOU deserve it!
